Kathmandu : There has been a shootout between the two sides on the border between North and South Korea. No casualties were reported in the attack.

The South Korean military says North Korea fired on a South Korean security checkpoint on the border in Cheorwon on Sunday. South Korea has said none of its troops were killed in the double firing.

In response, South Korea also fired two rounds. It was not immediately clear why North Korea fired. Authorities have contacted the North Korean military to try to determine the cause of the shooting.

This is the first time in five years that North Korea has fired on South Korea. For the past two years, efforts have been made to establish peace in the border area between North and South Korea. An agreement reached between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in at a conference in Pyongyang, North Korea, in 2018 called for a reduction in military tensions along the border.

North Korea fired on South Korea a day after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un appeared in public a long time ago.
